Emsculpt

What Is Emsculpt?

EMSCULPT is the world’s most advanced device for building muscle through the application of HIFEM Energy. The application of High-Intensity Focussed Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy to the targeted muscle group (Abs, Bicep, Tricep, Buttocks, Calves, Pelvic Floor) causes a supra-maximal contraction, which means the muscle is contracted harder than you are physically able to with regular exercise. This occurs up to 20,000 times in a single session. This intense level of muscle stimulation cannot be reached by conventional means and yields some impressive results.

In a 2018 study, 22 patients were treated with Emsculpt and saw an average reduction of 19% in abdominal fat, 15% increase in muscle thickness and a 10% reduction in abdominal separation. All this without doing a single sit-up or crunch.

What To Expect?

  • Get comfortable on the treatment bed and remove any metallic objects from around the treatment area (belts, keys, phone etc)
  • The applicator will be attached to the treatment area via a strap
  • Once you’re comfortable the treatment will begin at a low intensity and will increase incrementally until we reached the highest level based on your tolerance level
  • After 30 minutes the treatment is all done and you are ready to go back to your normal daily activities with no down time or aftercare.

Frequently Asked Question

What is HIFEM Energy?

High-Intensity Focussed Electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy induces supramaximal contractions by creating a rapidly changing magnetic field that penetrates through the skin and impacts layers of muscle and fat tissue creating internal electric currents. This depolarises the neural membranes which govern the motor units in the targeted muscle group, causing contractions.

What is a Supramaximal Contraction?

The central nervous system can only process one stimuli at a time, meaning that during a normal muscle contraction the muscle fibres need to relax between each stimulus. By generating impulses that are independent of brain function, HIFEM energy generates impulses at such a rapid frequency that it does not allow a relaxation phase.

With normal exercise, neurons develop a maximum threshold called the Maximal Voluntary Contraction (MVC). A single MVC can only be sustained for a fraction of a second. Any contraction that results in a tension higher than the MVC is referred to as a Supramaximal Contraction. HIFEM energy induces up to 20,000 of these in one session, which can be held for several seconds.

Am I a good candidate?

Anyone who wants to increase strength and build muscle is a good candidate for EMSCULPT, however the best results will be achieved by those who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You will not be suitable for EMSCULPT treatment if the following contraindications are relevant to you:

Pregnant or breastfeeding;
Cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator, implanted neurostimulator, drug pump or electronic
implanted device;
Metal rods, pins, plates, metal IUD or orthopaedic implants/joints;
Pulmonary insufficiency, cardiac disorders, epilepsy, or active malignancy;
Bleeding disorders, or taking blood thinners;
History of hernia repair with mesh, or any recent surgical procedure in the area;
Any injury, damage or tear to muscle or soft tissue in the area to be treated including
active hernia;
You may not use the device near your chest, head or neck;
You are under 18 years old.

What does it feel like?

EMSCULPT treatments are best described as intense but not painful. The muscles are being subjected to a vigorous workout for a sustained period of 30 minutes. The level of intensity can be adjusted to suit your comfort levels and the treatment incorporates a lymphatic stimulation component to minimise delayed onset muscle soreness.

Is there any downtime?

EMSCULPT is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime at all and you can return to your usual activities straight away.

How soon will I see results?

You will notice the results immediately after the treatment as the muscles will feel tight and activated. Over the next few days you will notice an increase in strength and more defined shape. 4-6 sessions are recommended, spaced 3-5 days apart, for best results.

How long does it last?

As with all muscle, if you don’t use it you lose it! With regular exercise you will maintain your results indefinitely, however, the results from a full course of treatments should last around 6 months. If you feel you need a top up, maintenance treatments are available.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a starter package of 4-6 treatments in order to achieve the best result, but you will notice improvement after the first treatment. Everybody will have a different starting point and goal in mind so its best to discuss this in your consultation to receive a personalised recommendation.
