HOW WE TREAT
What Is Coolsculpting?
Coolsculpting is the world’s leading technology for the permanent destruction of fat cells. Developed at Harvard University and supported by more than 50 clinical papers, Coolsculpting has treated more than 9 million people world-wide.
Coolsculpting is able to destroy fat cells through a process called cryolipolysis. This means that it induces fat cell death through freezing subcutaneous fat. Fat cells die at a higher temperature than other tissue and so Coolsculpting is able to isolate and destroy fat tissue without causing any damage to other tissue.
What To Expect?
- In your initial consultation we will make a full assessment and recommend a treatment plan based on the areas requiring treatment and your desired result.
- You will be positioned in the treatment chair to ensure the applicator remains firmly attached and will be given pillows and blankets to make you comfortable.
- You will feel a slight tugging as the vacuum based applicator is fitted to the area.
- Once the applicator is secure the treatment will begin and you will feel the area getting cold. After a few minutes the area will go numb.
- The treatment can take between 30 – 45 minutes and you can do multiple areas in one session.
- You will enjoy Noise Cancelling Headphones, Netflix, Stan or Spotify to keep you entertained and if you get hungry you can order something to eat from our Uber Eats account.
- After your treatment, the applicator will be removed and the fat cells will be frozen together in a lump.
- A post-treatment massage for two minutes is necessary to break up the frozen tissue and this can be slightly painful but usually passes after a few minutes.
- Following the treatment you can go straight back to your usual daily activities but you may notice some redness, swelling, itchiness or numbness. These usually subside within 2 weeks but we will be in touch with you to check on how you are feeling.
- In rare cases, patients may experience delayed onset pain following the treatment. This is caused by inflammation in the nerves due to the amount of toxins that may have been stored in the fat cells and should cease within 2 weeks. Pain management options are available in these rare circumstances.

Frequently Asked Question
Am I a good candidate for Coolsculpting?
The CoolSculpting® fat-reduction procedure is specially designed for those who have unwanted fat in targeted areas. Unlike weight-loss surgery (e.g. gastric bypass), the CoolSculpting® procedure is not a weight-loss solution for people who are obese. Good candidates for the CoolSculpting® procedure have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
Your first step should be to contact the Cosmetic Sculpting Clinic and discuss your treatment options.
Who should not have Coolsculpting?
The CoolSculpting® procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you suffer certain conditions including, but not limited to, cryoglobulinaemia (a blood protein disease), cold agglutinin disease (a rare anaemic autoimmune disease) or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (a rare autoimmune disease).
The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a treatment for obesity. As with any medical procedure, ask your registered medical practitioner if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.
Can the Coolsculpting procedure reduce fat any where on my body?
The CoolSculpting® procedure can treat visible fat bulges in the submental area (under the chin), thigh, abdomen and flank (love handle), along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks (also known as banana roll) and upper arm. You can discuss with your clinician about creating a customised treatment plan that’s tailored to your body and your individual goals.
I don’t like my double chin, can Coolsculpting help?
Yes, the CoolSculpting® procedure can treat visible fat bulges under the chin. Freezing away fat from a double chin is as effective as using the CoolSculpting® procedure on other parts of the body (e.g.,abdomen, flank/side, thighs). With CoolSculpting® treatment for a double chin, patients may see results after just 2 visits.
Where does the fat go? Are the results permanent?
Once the treated fat cells are frozen, they are destroyed and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body. Check out the video on this page to learn more.
Does the Coolsculpting system have safety features?
As a leading non-invasive fat-reduction treatment worldwide, CoolSculpting® has a well-established safety and efficacy profile. CoolSculpting® systems are controlled cooling devices designed with built-in safety measures. If sensors detect that the skin is getting too cold, the system will shut down automatically.
What does it feel like?
As the cooling begins during the first few minutes you typically feel intense cold. This should soon become bearable as the treated area numbs. With some applicators, you’ll feel some pulling as suction is applied.
After the treatment, you may feel some tingling. The area is then massaged for approximately 2 minutes. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following their appointment.
What should I tell my sculptor?
During your initial consultation, your physician will ask about your medical history to establish if CoolSculpting® could be right for you. It’s important to tell them if you have any past or present medical conditions, diseases including auto-immune, planning or already pregnant, etc as you may not be able to have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you are pregnant or have certain medical conditions.
How long is each treatment? How many treatments will I need?
You can discuss with your CoolSculpting® sculptor about creating a customised treatment plan that’s tailored to your body and your individual goals.
The length of your CoolSculpting® treatment will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit, however 35-60 minutes should be allowed per treatment depending on the applicators used.
Are there any side effects?
During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations may subside as the area becomes numb.
Following the procedure, typical side effects include redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. Numbness can persist for up to several weeks. There may be a sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental (under chin) treatment. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks. Though rare, some additional side effects such as paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (gradual enlargement of treated area), late onset pain, freeze burn, vasovagal symptoms (may include dizziness, sweating, fast or slow heart rate, nausea, paleness, etc), subcutaneous induration/hardened tissue, hyperpigmentation and hernia may also occur. The CoolSculpting® procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting® procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinaemia (a blood protein disease), cold agglutinin disease (a rare anaemic autoimmune disease) or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (a rare autoimmune disease).
The CoolSculpting® procedure is not a treatment for obesity.
As with any medical procedure, ask your physician if the CoolSculpting® procedure is right for you.
Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?
The CoolSculpting® procedure is non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities almost immediately. Often, patients return to work directly after their CoolSculpting® treatment, this will vary between people and may be dependent on treatment area.
I’ve had my procedure, now what?
Always be sure to schedule a follow-up assessment with your CoolSculpting® physician to review your results.
When will I see results?
Most patients see results between 2 and 6 months following treatment. Your body will still continue to remove the destroyed fat cells* for up to 4 to 6 months after treatment. The Before & After Gallery shows what results look like several weeks after CoolSculpting® treatment.
How much does Coolsculpting Cost?
The price for CoolSculpting® procedures varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of treatments needed and your ultimate goals.
You will need to discuss a customised treatment plan with your sculptor when you visit us in the clinic.
