5 MYTHS ABOUT COOLSCULPTING

It’s the dream right? Getting rid of stubborn, unwanted fat while you sit back and relax. It may sound too good to be true, but that’s exactly what Coolsculpting does and we are here to help you understand how this life changing technology works and clear up some of the myths and guilt culture around fat loss.

It’s replacing healthy eating and exercise
FALSE

Regular exercise and maintaining a good diet is vital to your overall health. With thousands of complex processes all happening simultaneously, your body requires good nutrition to ensure it has the ingredients necessary to facilitate all of those processes and exercise acts as both a trigger and catalyst for these functions. We are sorry to tell you that there is simply no way around eating and moving well in order to stay healthy. HOWEVER, when it comes to subcutaneous fat (the unsightly fat that lives just beneath the skin) diet and exercise simply aren’t the right approach.
The guilt culture around fat loss usually revolves around the narrative that YOU need to exercise more or YOU need to eat better, but what about people who exercise regularly and eat well but still are unable to shift those stubborn pockets of fat? This is an over-simplified approach to a very complex issue.

Once upon a time, when we were hunter gatherers, we might go days or even weeks without a reliable food source and so your body would store fat as energy in order to sustain itself. Now we have access to all the calories we could ever need and excessive stores of fat have become vestigial. When we use more calories than we consume on a day to day basis, the body will access these fat reserves by depleting fat cells and this is the result we all strive for, but this takes a consistent long-term approach and even if we achieve our goals, those fat cells are still there, waiting, ready to fill back up again as soon as you have that second piece of cake at a friend’s birthday. The truth of the matter is that exercise and diet won’t kill fat cells. It’s also not your fault that you have stubborn areas of fat retention. That’s right, this is something that is completely beyond your control. The location and density of fat cells is something that is predetermined by the body based on a wide variety of factors, including genetics.

Cosmetic Sculpting Clinic strongly recommends that Coolsculpting be used in tandem with regular exercise and a healthy diet for overall health but these will not impact the fat loss results. Once we kill those fat cells, they aren’t coming back!

It’s just a temporary fix
FALSE

In order to achieve a long lasting reduction of stubborn fat you need to kill the fat cells. The body can’t make new fat cells and so you will be able to permanently reduce its capacity to store fat in the areas where the fat cells have been destroyed. Previously the only way to do this was by surgical removal (liposuction), which carries huge risks, down time, scars, skin laxity and other unpleasant issues. Coolsculpting works because fat cells die at a different temperature than other tissue and so we are able to freeze and permanently destroy the fat cells without disrupting other cells. Imagine a glass bottle left in the freezer too long. The outer cell solidifies during the freezing process and the internal contents of the cell expand. This causes the cell to rupture and die so the body excretes it through its normal metabolic processes.
Each Coolsculpting treatment will remove an average 25% of the fat cells in the treated area. The area can be re-treated after 6 weeks and the full results will be realised after 3 months.
It’s important to remember that while you have killed some of the fat cells in an area, the remaining cells can still expand, although it is much harder for the body to grow a fat cell than to fill up an existing one. Some areas may require multiple treatments to achieve a significant reduction of fat cells and you can always re-treat the area if you desire a more dramatic result later on.

It’s only for certain areas
TRUE

It’s important to consider Coolsculpting as a body shaping tool rather than a weight loss tool. The number on the scales is not a true reflection of your body fat and even a body fat percentage count is not a true representation of how you feel wearing last year’s outfit.
The first point to consider is the difference between visceral and subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat is the fat which is stored around your organs. This poses the biggest threat to health as it can interfere with your body’s regular functioning and it is also responsible for increased size and girth. This type of fat cannot be removed using coolsculpting or liposuction and you will need to address this with diet, exercise and lifestyle strategies. Subcutaneous fat is the pinchable fat that lives just under the skin and is responsible for your shape and those undesirable bulges. This is the fat that can be removed by Coolsculpting and we can treat it almost anywhere. Common areas of stubborn fat retention that can be treated with Coolsculpting include: Upper and lower abdomen, Flanks (love handles), Submental (double chin), Arms (bat wings), Inner and outer thighs, above the knee, under the butt (banana roll) and Upper Back (bra fat).

It’s really uncomfortable
FALSE

Cosmetic Sculpting Clinic has gone the extra mile to make sure you are as comfortable as possible during your treatment. You can expect to be seated in a comfortable, heated, adjustable treatment bed while you sit back and watch some netflix, listen to some music, catch up on some reading or order some lunch from our uber eats account brought straight to the treatment room. You will feel a cooling sensation for a few minutes until the area goes numb and then you won’t feel a thing. When treating multiple areas we use two Coolsculpting machines (Dualsculpting) to cut the treatment time in half.
After the treatment we perform the post-treatment massage to help break up the frozen tissue and kickstart the metabolic process. As the area comes back to normal body temperature and the nerves are able to communicate with the brain you may experience a dull pain which varies for each individual. Some experience a very mild irritation while others experience a feeling akin to stubbing your toe. The pain passes within 10 minutes and we are always right there with you with a lollipop or stress ball to help you through it. Remember, we are permanently destroying fat cells after all and this is a very small price to pay. It’s also nothing compared to the pain and down-time associated with surgical options.

It’s expensive
False

Coolsculpting was developed at Harvard University, is FDA and TGA approved and has over 50 clinical papers supporting the technology. It is the world’s leading device costing up to $200,000 and offers an opportunity to permanently destroy fat cells without the need for surgery or down time. That said, it is expected that this treatment is going to have some cost associated and its really a question for each individual as to whether permanent reduction of stubborn fat is important to them.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing Coolsculpting to liposuction when it comes to price with liposuction costing upwards of $4,000 – $5,000 per area and carrying surgical risks and down time.
Coolsculpting prices range from $880 – $1,200 per treatment based on the size of the applicator used and the individual treatment plan and you can expect an average reduction of 25% per treatment. In the last few years Coolsculpting imitation devices have come to the market and are often used by some franchise clinics as they are significantly cheaper to purchase and operate. Their results are unpredictable, being sometimes ineffective and sometimes dangerous. You will get a cheaper per treatment price but it’s really a lucky dip as to whether you will get any result at all or end up with indentations, freeze burn or a-symmetrical results. Remember to make sure that the clinic is using a genuine Coolsculpting device no matter where you go and that the technician has plenty of experience.

At Cosmetic Sculpting Clinic we are committed to providing the best value and we never want cost to be the thing that stands between you and your results. We apply a discounting formula based on the number of treatments you require and so if you are looking to treat multiple areas you can rest assured that you will receive the absolute best price possible. We also offer a number of flexible payment options such as zip pay and after pay, as well as in-house financing options in some situations. You also enjoy the piece of mind that comes with our results guarantee meaning we will re-treat you at our own expense if you don’t get a result.

For a few thousand dollars you will enjoy results that make you happy for decades to come. At the risk of sounding like a cliche sales pitch, is it something you can afford not to do?
